We've had several questions from interested readers that are looking to do the Atlantic crossing, so here's some of what Signe & Henrik experienced on Capibara their Allegro 30.
After a rather boring Christmas Eve in Martinique, we decided to go to St. Lucia for the New Year’s, because a local girl from Martinique had told us that they threw better parties at the neighbour island.
Boatshed.com will be on Stand E163 for the next 9 days.
To arrive in Martinique has turned out to be a bit of an anti-climax for both of us, even though we barely talked about anything else during the crossing or before for that matter. Martinique hasn't live up to our expectations, which for my part have been have been completely off. I thought I had read somewhere that Martinique and especially the main city Fort-de-France was full of high-end and luxury brand shops, so I imagined Martinique to be something like the French Riviera with and island flavour. I do wonder where I've picked that up, because Fort-de-France couldn't be less like Cannes or Nice!
This year we’ve really got into blogging and have welcomed friends, boaters and brokers from all over the world to write articles on the Boatshed blog. It’s made interesting and varied reading; there should be something that appeals to everyone. Here are a few highlights from 2013.
Sunday the 17th of November we sailed from Lanzarote both of us full of excitement and optimism. I just couldn’t believe that we were about to cross the Atlantic!
Capibara, Allegro 30, left Lanzarote on Sunday 17th November and arrived in Martinique after 32 days at sea.

All is well on board Capibara but we are both very bored. We've been at sea now for 25 days but we still have over 800 miles to go. We finally have easterly winds but they are strong: 20-30 knots with squalls up to 40 knots.
Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale an ever popular Westerly Konsort. Westerly Konsorts are well regarded for being spacious and for easy handling with good performance under sail and power. This Konsort has been upgraded for Brittany and Channel Island cruising where she is ideally suited to explore remote areas inaccessible to other boats and away from the crowds. Well maintained, she has been a safe family boat enjoyed by the current owner, who is a professional seafarer, for the past 17 years. Most recent improvements include fitting a Beta Marine 28hp engine and gearbox (2009), with upgraded alternator, new stern gear and a calorifier for pumped hot water. In 2013 the standing rigging was replaced. She has davits and duplicate aerials fitted to a gantry which also makes her suitable for mast down cruising in the French Canals.
Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale a well maintained and equipped Channel Island 22. This example is fitted with the preferred twin Volvo diesels (recently serviced) offering excellent maneuverability and performance. Below decks she is well appointed including an unused Nelson stove and she is offered to the market with a good and very complete inventory as well. A really superb coastal cruiser – ‘ready to go’.
Just over two weeks at sea and just about half way to Martinique.
