US SV Angel Louise - Pictures of the snapped inmast furler
We wanted to share the pictures of our problems on our behind the mast furler. These are the first clear pictures of the problem we have.
Here are pictures taken this morning at Marina Parque dos Nacionales here in Lisbon when we got our sail down. (It has been blowing a lot here but was still at 8am) The lowest section part that connected into the drive unit at the bottom was broken in half just above the drive unit. Here you can see the genius of the temporary fix of Harald Sammer on Taniwanie - inserting a new piece of bar stock up the middle of the inner connecting piece that was snapped in half. Ideas & comments are happily accepted. Of course we can use this presently, but it would be nice with a permanent fix.
From what I understand from Jose at SAILLOFT in Lisbon, the interior inner piece that normally connects the bottom drive unit into the upper foil, comes in a single piece around six feet long, costing €94 from FACNOR (plus VAT and a four day shipping time plus shipping costs) Please note the picture also showing the foil the sail went in bent when it was pulled out the furler opening!
The top halyard slide slides over it with friction when removing the sail, which is now off.
I do not know how far the lowest inner unit inserts up into the outer foil the sail goes on, and if it goes up inside much of a distance, we wonder if there is enough we could slide down and "square off" so it becomes the new bottom in the drive unit!
