The Magic of Rhum.....

Boatshed exhibit their "Performance" brand at the 2014 Route du Rhum.
The Route du Rhum is one of the world's most popular sailing events.
The course is between Saint Malo, Brittany, France and Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe and is only run every 4 years.

Despite the size and complexity of the sailing machines that now take part the race is a solo sailor event.
To get an understanding of the excitement of this event you just need to consider the first Race in 1978, which was won by the boat Olympus Photo, by only a margin of 98 seconds over second-placed Kriter V, after over 3500 miles!

In France the race has evolved into a major national sports event comparable to the Tour de France: Daily coverage in all media and millions of visitors in the race village in Saint Malo before the start.

Boatshed.com have a stand for the 10 days in the famous "Race Village" at St Malo, this forms the hub of the event with all the race boats parked in this "village" as crews prepare boats for the start line on 2nd November. The tension and excitement that precludes the race here will be truly palpable.

Boatshed.com will be photographing many of the boats prior to the race start see this offer;Photographing Success for Boatshed Performance

This is a huge media event as you can see from this excerpt from the media report of edition 2010:
• 2 million visitors in Saint Malo Race Village in the week before the start
• 120,000 visitors in Guadeloupe at the finish
• Live coverage of the start on TV "France 3" (1.8 million viewers)
• A total of 57 hours of television coverage, 40 hours of radio reports
• 4719 reports in print media
• 5 million hits on mobile apps
• More than 27 million page views on the race website.

Described as "The Pirate City", St Malo plays host the world's top solo sailors who make ready to compete in a race across the Atlantic Ocean. A display of intensity, passion, advanced sailing technology and competitive sailing against the backdrop the stunning ancient architectural backdrop of this 6th century fortified city. It is going to be a very cool event!

Saint-Malo became notorious as the home of the corsairs, French privateers and pirates. The corsairs of Saint-Malo not only forced English ships passing up the Channel to pay tribute, but also brought wealth from further afield.
