The Boatshed crew recognise that buying a boat is a major decision, which is why you have chosen to use Boatshed as your professional broker to guide you through what can be a daunting process. We believe in offering the very best quality of service and provide our buyers with all the resources they need to ensure total peace of mind.

All Boatshed offices in the UK are members of the British Marine Federation and are bound by the BMF Code of Practice. The Code ensures both buyer and seller receive the proper level of service expected and in particular that client funds are lodged in a dedicated client account.

There is no mandatory boat registration in place in the United Kingdom and although formal marine mortgages may be recorded against a Part 1 Registration there could be other legal charges on a boat that are not recorded on the Part 1 registry. In just the same way as when you buy a second hand car and ask for an HPI check, you want to know that there are no legal charges registered against your boat purchase.

The Boatshed crew believe that it is time to deliver our buyers a better way of buying a boat. We recognise the benefit of having legal support during the boat buying process and have launched the ‘Boat Buyers Legal Service’, in association with expert marine solicitors – Yachting Lawyers. This tailor-made one-stop legal service for boat buyers provides another layer of quality above our already high standards. The Boat Buyers Legal Service takes care of all the legal help required when purchasing a boat and for a fixed fee price provides:

Title Searches:
Yachting Lawyers will carry out searches with the Ship Registry, stolen boats records, credit searches, Companies House (where appropriate), Admiralty Court and other Finance Houses

Escrow service:
Yachting Lawyers will hold deposit and purchase funds in a separate client account as stakeholder pending completion.

Legal Advice:
As well as providing peace of mind title searches and procuring transfer of legal title to new purchasers, Yachting Lawyers are able to provide advice to the buyer on the Agreement for Sale, review and inspect title documents and boat papers and work alongside brokers to facilitate the boat sale, including advising on solutions in the event of post survey disputes.

Part III Registration:
Included in the fixed fee is registration of the boat on the Part III (SSR) Registry.

What does it cost?
For all boats up to £100,000 purchase price, the discounted fee for this all-inclusive legal service is just £360 (including VAT) payable at the time of formal offer and £360 at completion. If the purchase is not formally completed after a survey by a qualified surveyor has taken place and the purchaser formally withdraws from the purchase, the second payment is not due.

This unique service is exclusively available through Boatshed and is available for all UK (including boats based in Gibraltar and the Channel Islands) based purchases. Please Note, for vessels over £100,000 purchase price, Part 1 Registry Boats or boats that currently lie outside of UK jurisdiction, Yachting Lawyers will be pleased to provide a customised quotation along similar lines to the potential purchaser.
